Harriet and James are based down south and with family originally from Scotland, they felt it was a fantastic opportunity to celebrate their wedding “back home” whilst enjoying some quality family time around the festive period, it’s a date that they will never forget as the wedding date was Hogmanay (31st Dec) so it was destined to be day / night that will be forever in their memories.

Duck Bay Hotel has such a lovely outlook with views over the water and the ceremony took place inside and was decorated beautifully which was lovely.   The ceremony was amazing with so much emotion in the room with both families enjoying watching Harriet and James declaring their love for each other and they enhanced their commitment to each other with the passing of the wishing stone whilst the ceremony was conducted.  As per the celtic tradition, the stone was returned to the elements in the nearby loch.

After the ceremony, we went outside for the family and the B&G photos, which is such a great time for the newly married couple to have some time to let it sink in, and I got some stunning photos amonst the fog which created a fantastic atmospheric backdrop across the loch.

Background to the wishing stone

Before the beginning of the ceremony, your Celebrant will explain the significance of the ‘wishing stone’ and will ask your guests to pass it between them, and for them to silently make a wish, for your future, upon the stone. The idea is that the love and good wishes that your guests have for you, and your future life, will be absorbed into the stone. Your Celebrant will try to ensure that the passing of the stone does not distract, or detract from, the rest of the ceremony. When it is time for you to make your vows, you will be asked to hold the stone together and make your promises.

In Celtic ceremonies, after use, stones were returned to the elements. If you are having an outside ceremony you may wish to throw the stones into the sea, for a beach wedding; or place them at the foot of a tree, for a woodland ceremony. Or you may want to keep them, it really is up to you.

The reception was held in the Loch Lomond Suite and Arden Room, which has fantastic views across the water. The venue is perfect for weddings because it’s so cosy and relaxed, and it’s got such a lovely vibe and scottish them with the loch framed perfectly throughout the room.

For the reception, the couple had organised sparklers on the outside terrace, which was simply magical and created a fun and highly enjoyable experience which the guests loved to keep them entertained.

After the speeches, everyone got straight on the dancefloor, and the dancefloor was packed all evening. The Spotify playlist kept the party going all night.

The evening ended with Jagerbombs all round, which was so much fun, and everyone had a great time. The whole festival wedding was so laid back, from the romantic vows to the wonderful speeches.
